Artist's Comments

My first try at digital drawing of anime/manga style art via photoshop. I am very pleased with how it came out, and as I progress I hope to get even better.
With this chibi/super deformed hybrid, I hoped to make a simplified version of Haseo from .hack//GU that still captured his personality and spirit.
I tried to capture the serious nature, and burning spirit of Haseo using primarily his eyes. I wanted to show his insensitivity towards others, yet a soft spot for those he cares about via this medium.
With his body language I wanted to have him "prove" that he is strong enough alone and does not need anybody by giving him a strong yet seclusive pose.

by the time I finished, I realized I was too brain dead to make a background, however I plan to do so with my art in the future. If any one wishes to create a background for him, I will gladly add it and give credit where it is due, the line art is also available in my "scraps" for any one interested in doing their own coloring or shading. just drop me a message ^^

i like the soft cell shading.
it still seems kinda flat, add a bit more contrast
the eyes are what stands out the most so the rest of the picture look plain. speaking of which the shape of the eyes don't really match. not sure where you were going with the hair but it doesn't work well with the rest of the image. also the wieght of your lines could be improved especially in the hair. just being picky for your own good. :D
for your first time it's pretty good.

thank you for the critique!
the hair i tried to use a realism technique i picked up, but it doesn't match the mood of the picture ill agree, so i might redo it.

as for the weight of the lines, what exactly do you mean? thicker? more emphasized? your a major in this, im a n00b lol.

i love giving critiques when i know you won't get offened by them :P i just wished i got more critiques. guess that's what school is for. :)

keep in mind that the thicker the line the more "shadow" there is like the chin. it's hard to explain with out showing it to you. and yes usually the thicker the line the more emphasize there is. in fullview different outlines of the hair are thicker than others try keeping them the same for now.

well actually i changed my major :D no more illustration for me :D

yes you are a noob

yeah, I would help critique you, but i would probably give you useless advice lol.

so as for lines, the line should be thicker if more shadow is going to be played in that area? I am still getting used to shading, i found that I tend to shade in places that sun wouldn't be hitting, and it makes it look flat, rather than three dimensional.

yeah, you changed it to (something about thread, i cannot remember the name, but i know what it is lol)

i guess we are all n00bs at one point though right? lol

useless advice is better than no advice...i think :D

don't know how to really answer that. you'll figure it out with time. if you darken places where the sun doesn't hit it should look more 3 dimensional. we should get together sometime so i could help you out -can never fully explain things without showing :(

FIBERS!

very nice. don't bother drawing a background for it now, trust me if you draw the background before the character it looks more believable. not to mention its easier. I like the lighting but I think if it was higher contrast it would pop more.

Yo i love the coloring job especially the hair you did a very nice job. that kind of chibi is what i call a half way chibi which is basically a small simplar version of a character but not as small as a reagular chibi. i really like the belts and the eyes are colored very nicely as well as the the rest of it . I give it two thumbs up for your awesomeness!!! you are truely geting better i wish you luck on your journey to greatness !
